Barcelona keep closing the doors to the La Masía boys. And despite all of this, these keep knocking the doors down. But then another closed door appears in front of them, and then another, another, another.
Riqui Puig should have been a starter at Barcelona for over a year. He should have been playing regularly in the first team for over two years. But no, Barça keep postponing this decision. Why? Because they have no conviction. If Riqui does well, ok. But they will make no efforts to give him chances or make room for him. In fact, they keep putting more obstacles in his path.
The management from the club — this includes board, coach…— is horrible. Look, honestly, this was one of the things why I feared Ronald Koeman. With Xavi, with García Pimienta, with Pep, Riqui would definitely be a starter. But Koeman prioritises a different more physical football, a 4•2•3•1 and a double pivot in which Riqui can do well but that’s not his best position, and he has chosen Aleñá over him.
Koeman has excluded Riqui Puig from the squad list for the Gamper and has told him to look for an exit. Not surprised. The most worrying thing is that Riqui’s contract expires next summer. So a loan would make little sense, since he would leave for free after it. Wouldn’t be surprised if a permanent sale was agreed. A day after Liverpool’s world-class signing, Barça fans fear a Thiago 2.0. Aguanta. Koeman won’t last long and don’t help the board balance the books.
